    FAQs

      Who is in charge?

We are your fellow parents, neighbors, and SJGCC residents. Our team operates on a 100% voluntary basis because we love our neighborhood, our kids, and we believe in our team mission. We are governed by the volunteer-based St Johns Summer Swim League, and we operate with support from the Sampson Creek CDD as well as several other supportive CDDs.

Does my child need to be a strong swimmer to join the Stingrays?

No, as long as your child can swim the length of the pool and float independently, we’d love them to join. Our coaches will work with them on all aspects of technique, strokes, and endurance. By the end of the season you’ll have a much stronger swimmer!

What is the cost to join the team?

      Membership Fee Details Coming Soon

Price includes team shirt and swim cap. Membership refunds can only be requested while registration is open. League fees and non resident fees are non refundable. Additionally, $50 will be reduced from approved refunds to cover season costs up to cancellation.

Non-residents of SJGCC may join during a secondary enrollment if there is space available. There is an additional $50 fee per non-resident swimmer, which has been included in the team fee.

    * Per Swimmer league fee was previously collected by the team and sent to the league. League fee will now display as a separate line item during registration.

      What is the practice commitment?

Regular attendance at practice is encouraged, and practice times by age group are posted under the Practice Times section.

Do swimmers have to attend every swim meet?

We know things come up, so we try to make the swim team as flexible as you need it to be. Please note, swimmers must swim a minimum of three meets in order to be eligible to swim at Champ Meet in July.

How long does a meet last?

Meets begin at 8 a.m. and usually last about 3-4 hours.

      What is the volunteer commitment?

Because our team operates on a 100% volunteer basis, volunteers are critical to the success of our season. Enrolling in our swim program means that you agree to volunteer.  Each swim family must volunteer at least 4 sessions (each meet is divided into 2 sessions) during the regular season and one (1) session at Champs. There are a variety of positions to choose from and we will provide all the guidance you need!

What equipment will I have to purchase?

Appropriate swim suit, swim cap and goggles are required for all swimmers. Additional equipment includes fins, kick board and a reusable water bottle with swimmer name. We recommend that our 8-U swimmers order “junior" kick boards that are smaller in size than adult sized boards. Links to purchase swimsuits and equipment can all be found on our website.

What should I expect at the swim meets?

Swim meets are very exciting for swimmers, as it gives them a chance to show their improvements throughout the season. Expect a high-energy atmosphere filled with sportsmanship, camaraderie, food, and music. We recommend bringing a cooler, a shade structure and some seating. We'll have cold drinks and food for sale at our concessions.

      What is a dual meet? A tri-meet?

A dual meet is held between two swim teams and a tri-meet is held between three swim teams at the same time. One swim club is the host team and the other(s) is the visiting team. The schedule is posted on the website under the tab labeled Swim Meets. There is a championship meet in July when all teams will compete with each other at one meet.
